Year of Prayer 2024 for the Jubilee Year 2025

In preparation for the 2025 Jubilee Year 'Pilgrims of Hope', 2024 has been designated a Year of Prayer by Pope Francis. During this year of Prayer, we are encouraged to deepen our commitment to prayer and to accompany others in their own prayer life, as well as going back to basics to reflect on how and why we pray. The year will have a special focus on the Lord's prayer.
“Prayer unites us; it makes us brothers and sisters. It is in prayer that our hearts find the strength not to be cold and insensitive in the face of injustice. In prayer, God keeps calling us, opening our hearts to charity. ” Pope Francis

Life Boat

In the session we held this last weekend, we tried to become more aware of the feelings we keep hidden from view. We talked about how having a “mask" to hide behind can be very necessary, especially in the early days and weeks, so that we can meet others and function, whilst keeping the rawness of grief hidden away from view. A “mask" allows us to go to church, to the shops, to work etc, without having to cope with the reactions and responses of others. We “put on a brave face” and go about our business.
We also talked about how we can make sure there are some times in our week when we can peel these masks off a little and let our feelings be seen by those we trust; a family member or friend, or counsellor. We looked at how helpful it can be when we allow ourselves to be really seen and can express our feelings openly. It may be hard at first, but it is the way to process our grief and really heal. We did an arty activity with masks to develop these ideas.

If you’d like to come along to the next session of The Lifeboat, you will be able to catch up with some of the things you may have missed from recent sessions!

Usually we meet on the last Saturday of the month, but because of Easter weekend, we will next meet on SATURDAY 23RD MARCH at 11.30am until 1pm, at St Peter’s, Hadlow.
